I know who I am. I love it when people love me for who I am. I can withstand rejection from people who don’t love me.

But it wasn’t always that way.

I used to be a scared, silent, slightly passive aggressive, yet friendly Latino gay guy who wasn’t really telling people what I wanted when they asked.

I was more concerned about others getting what they need from me.

“If you’re good, I’m good,” I thought.

But I wasn’t good.

That’s when I started focusing on myself.

I’ve learned that honesty is key: honesty with myself for who I am, and honesty with others.

I was so worried about losing people that I didn’t even let myself be real with people. Now, I have some truly close friends who are as weird, dorky, and unique as me.
